This workshop by Technological Taxidermy is a hands on introduction to the Make Noise “0-Coast” – It is designed to give you a top down view of the Make Noise workflow and their unique musical style. It focuses on the core 0-Coast circuits and their functionality, but not so much on synthesis or general sound physics. Participants will walk away with a basic understanding of Drone, Percussion, and Sustaining Contour patches on the 0-Coast, as well as a custom Make Noise Zine designed specifically for the workshop.

Session: Collaboration in Modular Synthesis
Presented by: John Kammerer and Michael Vawter of Bleeps and Loops
Modular synthesis is typically a solitary pursuit, but these instruments are also powerful tools for collaborative music performance and production. In this session, we’ll discuss specific strategies for cross-patching between separate musicians’ racks as well as general tips and tricks for approaching collaboration in Eurorack. Michael and John began working together as Tree Cathedral, a modular synth duo that has performed regularly at Modular on the Spot, Modular Nights, and other synth events in Seattle. They later founded Bleeps and Loops, a local organization that emphasizes creativity, collaboration and education within the local and global synth community. B+L hosts regular collaborative/improvisational synth events, teaches electronic music camps at the University of Washington, and has recently released an online Modular Synth Masterclass for beginner and intermediate modular synthesists.

Session: Mixing Modular Music
Presenter: Nathan Moody of Obsidian Sound
Mixing electronic music follows a lot of the same best practices as other genres, with other instruments, but the extreme frequency and volume spectrum of music made with modular synths can be tricky to reign in. Nathan Moody, modular musician and mastering engineer at Obsidian Sound, has mastered over 100 albums made with modular equipment, has heard almost every conceivable success and failure. He will offer tips, tricks, and strategies for making sure that your unique voice and intent gets rendered as clearly as possible, regardless of fidelity, style, or genre.

Session: A Zonal Approach to Live Modular Performance
Presenter: Ben "DivKid" Wilson
In this talk I'll break down my approach to creating a live Eurorack performance system. This set up is based around improvising across multiple musical and sonic "zones" to create ambient sound beds, drones and melodies. I'll explore a "zonal" approach to creating sub patches, each with a musical and sonic footprint to improvise and experiment with live. These zones can then create a series of movements that can work standalone or merge and transition between each other giving the performer a fluid an reactive state to work within.

Session: Modular Minimalism and Composition
Presenter: Ann Annie
The modular environment can be quite daunting to anyone, regardless of previous musical background. A modular system can be extremely versatile standalone instrument by itself. However when integrating a system to other instruments and different settings, there is an infinite amount of ways you can about this. This workshop will focus on integrating a modular system in a composition setting along with other instruments. Specifically in a "minimalistic" sense.
